Artists Gather from Coast to Coast, Nineteen States and
Northeast Ohio for a One-of-a-Kind Fine Art and Craft Fair
(Cleveland, OH) The 9th annual By Hand Fine Art & Craft Fair returns to the I-X Center in Cleveland, Ohio, November 8-10, 2013. Widely regarded as one of Ohio’s premiere art festivals, By Hand showcases more than 200 national and local artists’ displays in one convenient location. Glass work, wearable art, decorative products, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, woodworks and much more make this established juried art fair the perfect place to purchase beautiful and admirable original works of art that convey a value far beyond mass produced items.
New this year, thousands of art enthusiasts will enjoy the enhanced show layout that adds an additional aisle, themed lounge areas and a sampling of local faire. Many areas within the show will integrate artists’ works as part of the overall atmosphere.
The Brewery District Café is a new show feature offering craft and microbrews, including Cleveland’s own Great Lakes Brewing Company. The Café celebrates the art side of craft beer. Architectural artist Mike Guyot designed labels for some of Great Lakes Brewing’s best known craft beers. Each label design is a piece of art in its own right. Some labels designed by Guyot include Burning River Pale Ale, Conway’s Irish Ale, Dortmunder Gold Lager, Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Eliot Ness Amber Lager and seasonal favorites Christmas Ale & Oktoberfest. Guyot’s designs along with Great Lakes Brewing Company’s beers will be featured in the new Brewery District Café and Guyot’s free-hand drawings done in technical pen will be on display in his booth #300.
Woodworking artists will have a large presence this year, offering everything from functional heirloom furniture by Gary Keener to exotic wood bowls and sculptures from Michael Mode. Renowned artist Joe Leonard returns with his uniquely hand-carved sculptures, some of which have become permanent fixtures at the I-X Center. Handmade kitchen utensils carved from cherrywood make perfect holiday gifts, courtesy of artist Neil Claypoole of Jonathan’s Spoons. If patrons are looking for something larger in scale, benches, tables and cutting boards reclaimed from white oak barrels are the focus of artist Chris Deffenbauch of Oak Barrel Company, examples of which will be visible in the Cafe. The company motto of “Reclaim, Reuse, Recreate” encapsulates one-of-a-kind pieces that can grace any living space with a vineyard feel.
From art functioning in the home to functioning in the wardrobe, wearable art designers will make quite an impression at the By Hand Fine Art & Craft Fair in 2013. Beautifully designed handbags, clutches, hats, scarves and more will entice patrons to fall in love with fashion. Ohioan J.J Reichert will be one of the participating artists in the wearable art genre, selling her colorful collection of purses and wristlets. Lindsay Jean-Marie Adam, another Ohioan hailing from Akron, is a knitwear textile artist that will display an array of clothing that includes sweaters and wraps.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch select artisans make their craft during the run of the show. Custom wood carvings, stained glass, felting and abstract acrylic/oil demonstrations will offer rare opportunities to see how handmade works of art are created.
The By Hand Fine Art & Craft Fair will run November 8-10, 2013, at the I-X Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The I-X Center is located at One I-X Center Drive on Route 237, adjacent to Cleveland Hopkins Airport. It is easily accessible from I-480, I-71 and the Ohio Turnpike.
